PoINT Jukebox Manager
is jukebox management software that combines features
and functionality of Volume
Management with Hierarchical Storage Management to
simply provide drive letter access to CD, DVD, Magneto-Optical,
and UDO Optical jukeboxes on a Windows or Linux network.
By providing a simple-to-use Graphical User Interface
that is similar in look and feel to Windows Explorer,
PoINT Jukebox Manager becomes a powerful optical jukebox
management tool that installs quickly and requires little
training and administration of secondary storage devices.
PoINT Jukebox Manager is recommended for the following
data storage applications:
Regulatory Compliance
Using PoINT Jukebox Manager with a DVD
jukebox or Optical jukebox to store data on
non-erasable, non-rewriteable media types such
as CD-R, DVD-R, Magneto-Optical, and Ultra Density
Optical to comply with regulatory requirements
for data retention.
Data Archiving
Using PoINT Jukebox Manager with a DVD
jukebox or Optical jukebox for long-term storage
of corporate data on secure, reliable, write-once
media types, such as CD-R, DVD-R, Magneto-Optical,
and Ultra Density Optical.
Secondary Storage
Using PoINT Jukebox Manager with a DVD
jukebox or Optical jukebox with re-writeable
media types such as DVD-RAM, Magneto-Optical,
and Ultra Density Optical, to store large volumes
of information, and reduce storage and backup
requirements on local server hard drives and
disk arrays.
CD/DVD Access
Using PoINT Jukebox Manager with a DVD
jukebox as a secure network-based disc library
to store and launch software installation CD’s
and DVD’s, in addition to publications
such as law libraries, encyclopedias, and any
other reference materials distributed on CD-ROM
or DVD-ROM discs.
CD/DVD Duplication
Using PoINT Jukebox Manager with a DVD
jukebox to duplicate the contents of CD-ROM
and DVD-ROM discs to blank CD-R and DVD-R discs
as an unattended operation.
Some highlights of PoINT Jukebox Manager include:
- Easy
installation – Intuitive Windows
Explorer-like GUI and automatic device configuration
simplifies
software installation and configuration of attached
DVD jukeboxes and optical jukeboxes.
- Native Windows
File System – Supports
NTFS security and permissions that are familiar
to network administrators
and network support staff.
- Media Support – Supports
CD-R, CD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD-ROM, DVD-RAM, Magneto-Optical,
and UDO Optical,
with the ability to mix media and jukebox
types on the same server within the same File System.
- Event-Controlled Recording – Record
data to CD-R and DVD-R discs by triggering an event
such as time of day, the accumulation of a pre-set amount
of data, or the presence of an end-of-job
file in a “watch folder”
- Disk Caching – Use server hard disk
space to enhance read and write performance by
serving requests
for frequently read files directly from
the cache and reducing media exchanges within the
jukebox.
- UDF compliant – Write to
media using the standard UDF file system,
allowing media
to be transported
to other platforms and stand-alone drives
and remain readable outside of PoINT Jukebox Manager.
- Volume Sets – Combines
multiple pieces of media into a single logical volume,
dynamically adding blank
media as the volume grows.
- File Spanning – Files
and directories can span across physical
media surfaces
- Remote Administration – Using
the PoINT Jukebox Manager remote administration
module, media, volumes,
and configuration parameters can be
managed without having to physically be at the jukebox
server.
- Off-line Management – Media
can be removed from the optical jukebox
and files contained
within are
still referenced and available to the
file system.

and utilization of hard disk cache
